In a Non profit it is vital that documents are kept safe in order to make accountability easier. It is therefore always advisable to have a backup copy of your documents just in case the main hard drive crashes. Document safety is fundamental when looking for a good back-up service but there are a few other things you should look out for including;

  • Storage space
  • Document synchronization
  • Reliability
  • Ease of use

There are some good online back-up services that will ensure document safety. Here are some the best free services;

Skydrive

The overall storage space available on this back up service is 7GB. This service is built into the new version of windows- Windows 8 and it saves your documents. It is easy to use given that all you need to do is install it and you can start backing up your files. It is a secure service but your files can be retrieved by law enforcement officers. It is thus advisable to store non-confidential files on Skydrive.

IDrive

This backup service is owned by IBackup which has been in business for the last 14 years, reliability is therefore assured. The only drawback is that it has 5 GB of storage which might not be enough for storing many documents. The transfer of documents is encrypted and you are given a private key. This keeps other people from accessing your documents without permission. IDrive offers a scheduled back up that backs up your documents even when you forget.

Sugarsync

This backup service offers you a 5GB storage space which can be increased when you refer people to it. It has been in existence for a long time and thus its reliability is proven. Your documents are synced automatically saving on time. The files are encrypted during transmission making it hard for another party to intercept.

Dropbox

Dropbox offers an initial 2GB of storage which is free. You can pay for more storage space if need be. It syncs between your PC and the cloud plus any other gadgets that have Dropbox enabled. It is reliable as several people have used it successfully.
