How to Write the Perfect Fundraiser Letter

Fundraising is a key component of any non-profit organization. Writing the perfect fundraiser letter is a skill that must be mastered in order to be successful. Whether for a specific event, or for year-round donations, knowing what to include in your communications will ensure success for your cause. Here are some tips on how to write the perfect fundraiser letter.

* Personalize your introduction: Never start a letter with ‘Dear Supporter.’ Your readers need to know that the letter was intended for them, and that you value their donation.

* Capture their attention: Include a story of a specific person, ask a bold question, or make a statement that will make them think. In essence, you want to give them a reason to donate to your cause. You need to resonate with your reader.

* Explain in detail: Make sure your reader understands the cause and the urgency for making a donation now, instead of in the future. Let them know what may happen if they put it off; use clear, concise language to make them understand what they’re donating to, and how they’re helping.

* Thank them in advance: In your closing segment, thank them for donating and re-iterate the importance of your cause.
