Build Safety into Employment Practices

By Alexa Connelly

Shouldn’t we be rewarded for our good deeds? Improvement upon difficult areas should be done to make sure we are behaving as safely as possible too. With that said, safe employee driving should have incentives while poor operation requires retraining or consequences. Ways to increase the likelihood of driving compliance by your employees include: incentives, “HOW AM I DRIVING?” stickers with your phone number for reporting, disciplinary action for unsafe behavior, documentation for lawsuits, and signature of the driver on a pledge card promising safe practice. Incentives that can be used for accident free driving are recognition at the end of the year or holding lunch meetings with driver safety video education. Provide client surveys and suggestion boxes to solicit performance by the driver, and document any reason for disciplinary action.
