Respond Appropriately to Accidents

What should you do if you are part of a car accident ?!? Lets start by considering safety at the scene. Further damage should be prevented, so pull off the road if possible, turn the car off with the emergency brake in place, check yourself and others for injury and DO NOT move them unless there is a life threatening situation, setup flares 200 feet from the vehicle, call for help, exchange information, and call your employer. Information that should be obtained is insurance and the driver’s name, address, and phone number. If there is damage to the vehicle, pictures should be taken for evidence.

This is a helpful guide to include in your Nonprofit Volunteer Handbook if volunteers will be driving Nonprofit owned vehicles.
